Antique Ericsson AC100 Eiffel Tower/Skeletal Desk Phone
Description:
Exceedingly rare antique Ericsson AC100 (early number 370) "Swivel Transmitter Eiffel tower" desk telephone. This is the first and rarest of all the antique Ericsson skeletal phones and very few of them have survived today.
It included a magneto, a carbon grain transmitter that could be rotated to prevent carbon granule packing, and a separate receiver. The coil was built into the turned wooden turret base, and the bells suspended underneath the phone. The brown ebonite "deck" carried the lightning arrestor and terminals. The legs were magnetized to provide the magnetic field for the generator. The turret and legs were finished in black and the legs were adorned with golden "Japan" enamel, and other metal parts were nickel plated. Serial # 672179 incised on back of deck.
The Model AC100 was designed by Lars Ericsson himself, introduced in 1884 and continued in production until at least 1888 with the spiral transmitter. It was latter upgraded to a new carbon grain transmitter that worked better when vertically mounted. The phone continued in production until 1890, although it was soon overtaken by the later handset model, it was still shown and described in catalogs through the early 1900s. Any orders were apparently filled from old stock.

Condition:
It was probably refurbished in the past and cotton covered cords have been replaced. Otherwise, excellent to near mint condition. Untested, but I guess it will work fine.
